Create your Meta business portfolio, add your Facebook Page and ad account, and give the team control
Your Meta business portfolio (formerly Business Manager) is the home base for your Facebook Page, ad account, and Instagram. This guide shows you how to create one, add your business assets to it, and invite our team as admins.
Onboarding Guide: Meta Business Setup
Before you start
This guide sets up your Meta business portfolio (formerly called Business Manager) and gives us access to your Facebook Page and ad account. You keep full ownership.
You will need:
Your personal Facebook login. Meta requires a real personal profile to run a business portfolio; nobody else can see your personal profile from here.
Admin access to your business's Facebook Page.
Your business name and business email address.
Your marketing team email addresses.
Tip: Do this on a computer, not your phone. Meta's settings are much easier to find on desktop.
Step 1: Create (or find) your business portfolio
First, check if you already have one:
Go to business.facebook.com and log in with your personal Facebook account.
Look at the top-left corner. If you see your business name there, you already have a portfolio. Skip to Step 2.
To double-check, open Business portfolio info. If a portfolio name and ID are shown, it exists.
If you don't have one, create it:
On business.facebook.com, click Create an account (or click the business name dropdown at top-left → Create a business portfolio).
Enter your business name. Use the public name customers know.
Enter your first and last name.
Enter your business email address.
Click Create (or Submit).
Check that email inbox for a message from Meta and click Confirm now.
Done when: you see your business name in the top-left corner of Meta Business Suite.
Step 2: Add your Facebook Page and ad account to the portfolio
Add your Facebook Page:
Go to Business Settings (or click the gear icon at the bottom-left of Meta Business Suite).
In the left menu, click Accounts → Pages.
Click the blue + Add button → Add a Page.
Type your Page name or paste its Facebook link. Click Add Page.
If it says someone else's business already owns the Page, stop and message us.
Add or create an ad account:
Still in Business Settings, click Accounts → Ad accounts.
Click + Add.
Choose one:
Add an ad account: if you have run Facebook ads before. Enter the ad account ID (found in Ads Manager, top-left dropdown).
Create a new ad account: if you've never run ads. Name it "[Business name] Ads", pick your time zone and currency (can't change later), and click Next → Create.
Add a payment method when asked, or later under Billing and payments.
Done when: your Page and ad account both appear under Accounts in Business Settings.
Step 3: Add our team as admins
You'll invite your marketing team by email.
Go to Business Settings.
In the left menu, click Users → People.
Click the blue + Add (or Invite people) button.
Type in all of your OPTYO team members email addresses.
Under business portfolio access, choose Full control (may say Admin access). Click Next.
Now pick what they can manage. Go through each type on the left and tick your asset:
Pages: tick your Facebook Page → turn on Full control (or Everything).
Ad accounts: tick your ad account → turn on Full control (or Manage ad account).
Datasets / Pixels: tick yours if you see one → Full control.
Catalogs: tick yours if you have one → Full control.
Instagram accounts: tick yours if it's already connected → Full control.
Click Send request (or Send invitation).
Message us that it's done. Each person accepts the invite from their email.
Already working with us through a partner ID? If we sent you our business portfolio ID instead, go to Users → Partners → + Add → Give a partner access to your assets, paste the ID, and give Full control to each asset above.
Final checklist and troubleshooting
Business portfolio created and email confirmed
Facebook Page added to the portfolio
Ad account added or created, payment method added
Common problems:
I don't see Business Settings or the + Add button: you are not an admin of the portfolio. Ask whoever set it up to make you an admin under Users → People, or to follow this guide.
"This Page is owned by another business": a past agency or employee may own it. Message us.
An email won't go through: copy and paste it from this guide instead of typing, with no spaces.
Stuck anywhere else: screenshot the screen and send it to us.
