Onboarding Guide: Website Backend Access

Before you start

This guide adds us as a user on your website's admin area (the "backend"), so we can install tracking codes, verify your site with Google and Meta, and fix product data.

Not sure what your website is built on? Ask whoever built it, or try these: if you log in at yourstore.myshopify.com/admin, it's Shopify; at yourwebsite.com/wp-admin, it's WordPress; otherwise check for Squarespace or Wix in your emails or billing.

You will need:

• Your website admin login, with Owner or Administrator rights.

• Our website contact email: stephen@optyo.net.

Shopify

Shopify has two ways to give us access; we prefer you use option A.

Option A: add us as a staff user

1. Log in to your Shopify admin at admin.shopify.com.

2. Click Settings (bottom-left corner).

3. Click Users (may say Users and permissions).

4. Click Add users (may say Add staff).

5. Type in stephen@optyo.net.

6. Under access, choose the Admin role if it's offered. If not, choose Select custom permissions and tick every box so we have full admin access.

7. Click Send invite. We'll show as Pending until we accept.

Option B: collaborator access (doesn't use up a staff seat)

1. In your Shopify admin, click Settings → Users → Security.

2. Under Collaborators, click Generate new code.

3. Copy the 4-digit code and send it to us with your store address (for example yourstore.myshopify.com).

4. We'll send a request. When the email arrives, click through, make sure all permissions are ticked (full admin access), and click Accept.

WordPress / WooCommerce

1. Log in at yourwebsite.com/wp-admin (replace yourwebsite.com with your real web address).

2. In the black menu on the left, hover over Users and click Add New User (may say Add New).

3. Fill in:

   • Username: our agency name, no spaces (for example "agencyname").

   • Email: stephen@optyo.net.

   • First / Last name: optional.

4. Leave the password as the auto-generated one; we'll set our own.

5. Tick Send the new user an email about their account.

6. Set Role to Administrator (we need this to install plugins and tracking codes).

7. Click the blue Add New User button at the bottom.

Squarespace and Wix

Squarespace

1. Log in at squarespace.com and click on your website.

2. Click Settings (gear icon) in the left menu.

3. Click Permissions (may say Permissions & ownership).

4. Click Invite contributor.

5. Type in stephen@optyo.net.

6. Tick Administrator.

7. Click Invite.

Wix

1. Log in at wix.com and open your site's dashboard.

2. Click Settings in the left menu, then Roles & Permissions.

3. Click Invite Collaborators (may say Invite People).

4. Type in stephen@optyo.net.

5. Tick Admin (Co-Owner).

6. Click Send Invites.

Common problems:

• I don't see Users, Permissions, or Invite: you're not the Owner or an Administrator. Ask whoever built or manages the site to add us as an Admin.

• The Admin option is greyed out or missing: your plan may limit admin seats, or your web developer may have locked it. Message us before upgrading anything.

• The invite says "pending" for days: tell us; it may be in our spam folder. You can also resend the invite.

• Stuck anywhere else: screenshot the screen and send it to us.
